All sessions will be presented via ZOOM.  You will receive a link to the session with instructions two days prior to the event.

As SLPs head back to school this year, many are finding themselves conducting therapy remotely. Clinicians may be at a loss when it comes to developing intervention plans and finding therapy materials for their telepractice sessions. In this presentation, we will learn how to make the most of the built-in features found in most video conference platforms, how to create new, engaging and interactive activities, as well as how to adapt books and other print resources that therapists may have used previously in therapy. Additionally, clinicians will develop strategies for supporting students and planning teletherapy sessions. Multiple examples and case study examples will be given.

In school districts throughout the state, speech and language services have moved to virtual delivery due to COVID-19.  Keeping students with complex communication needs engaged and motivated can sometimes be challenging.  Ensuring students actively participate, communicate and practice social routines in virtual sessions requires some creativity.  In this session, we will discuss simple, fun activities that promote engagement and participation. We will review IEP goals that can be addressed during these activities.  Additionally, we will discuss ways to involve parents in sessions to maximize teachable moments for students and families.

AAC Evaluating 101:  From Evaluation to Submission

This training will cover the funding and evaluation process for a medically necessary speech generating device (SGD) that is being funded by Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare military insurance, and/or private insurance. The class will begin with a brief review of the role of the speech-language pathologist and outline necessary evaluation team members. It will then discuss, in depth, common funding sources, completing and writing a medically based SGD evaluation, and submitting the paperwork. Tips for providing AAC assessment and implementation virtually will also be shared. The class will conclude with some tips on getting started once the speech generating device has been approved and shipped to the client. This class in intended for speech-language pathologists interested in learning about the funding and evaluation process for SGDs.

Resolving Ethical Dilemmas:  Best Practices for School-Based SLPs and AUDs

Covid-19 changed the way we operate, it is more important now than ever to be able to coach others, especially in the virtual world. This presentation will go through best practices in coaching, evidence behind how to coach most effectively, and solutions to common problems related to coaching. Preschool, school age and adult populations will be discussed. We will also share tips related to conducting evaluations in a virtual platform, as well as practical implementation suggestions for virtual sessions including data collection.

Speech-Language Pathologists know that carryover of our work needs to occur in the classroom setting for true progress and generalization to occur. The problem we face is how to create a culture in which our classroom staff feel empowered to build communication opportunities throughout their daily routines. Through this presentation, we will offer solutions to increase communicative opportunities for all students and provide you with ideas to help move students beyond requesting in the classroom and increase their use of language for a variety of pragmatic functions. This presentation will include strategies for both low and high technology users of augmentative/alternative communication.
