Kathy McDermott is an SLP supervisor at the Montgomery County Educational Service Center. Kathy used th SOS funds to purchase Tangible Object Cards to be used in a learning center with self-contained classrooms for students with multiple disabilities. Tactile object communication cards are used to support students with visual impairments, multiple disabilities, or other communication challenges to access the curriculum by providing them with concrete, physical representations of abstract concepts. These symbols are particularly useful for individuals who cannot rely on traditional print-based materials, and they allow students to engage with learning in a way that is multisensory—primarily through touch.
